Body Building Supplements
Over the years many things have changed when it comes to body building supplements. More resaerch has been done to improve the way the products react to the body. Testing has been performed to study the results of different products. And they even taste much better.
When I was 17 and started working out often, I did like most people and went to the health food store in search for something to make my muscles grow. There were some good products on the market at the time, but most of them tasted terrible. It was a workout just to get them down. Luckily things have improved. Because of stiff competition, many companies are working dilegently to perfect their products performance and improve their taste.
Believe it or not, you can actually purchase supplements that taste great.
My best advice is to talk to people. Ask people at the gym what products they are taking. And the most important thing is how they are taking the products. Some supplements work best when taken on an empty stomach while others work better after you eat. Some should be taken at bedtime and others before your workout.
By not fully understanding the product you may not be reaping it's complete benefits. Make sure you understand how and when to use it.
Often I hear people tell me that certain products do not work. Then when I ask them how they are taking the product I realize why.
There are different products for different goals
Make sure that you are taking the right product for your goal. I was at a popular health food store one day and asked the employee there what product I should use to get that "ripped" look. He directed me to a weight loss product that seemed to fit my needs. Long story short, it didn't give me the results I wanted. The problem was that the product was an appetite suppresant. This caused me to eat less. The lack of calories (mainly protein) slowed my muscle growth. So that was the last time I purchased a product with out doing a littel research first.
What supplements should you take to build muscle?
PROTEIN- Protein builds muscle. It alson supplies the body with many needed amino acids. Whey is the most popular form of protein supplements on the market. You can purchase it in and easy to mix powder, RTD (Ready To Drink) form, protein snacks and more. Protein can also come from eating certain foods like: lean beef, chicken, turkey, fish and other seafoods, and egg whites. As a general rule you should take approxiamtely 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. (Don't forget to count your calories.
CREATINE- Becoming very popular among body builders, creatine is a highly used supplement. My recommendation is that you cycle this product. Take it for 4-5 weeks then stop for 2 weeks and repeat. Creatine can be purchsed in several forms, however I prefer creatine monohydrate. For more information, read this informative article about
creatine.
BRANCHED CHAINED AMINO ACIDS- BCAAs can not be made by the body from other compounds. Thus the need for this supplement. They help reduce fatigue and muscle breakdown.
L-GLUTAMINE- Helps to prevent muscle breakdown. Basically it will allow you to work the muscles even harder. This is a very important amino acid for building muscle.
L-ARGANINE- Helps to increase blood flow to the muscles and enhances the release of growth hormones. In addition it also helps to improve the immune system. This is a fairly inexpensive product, however there arer products that contain Arginine that are very expensive. Make sure you look at the ingredents closely.
